TIPS

The number on the left is power, and on the right is health.

You can play as many fish in each lane as you want.

The red arrow on the bottom indicates which lane will attack next.

The red arrows on the top indicate which lanes the opponent will attack.

If an enemy attacks an empty lane, you’ll get hit instead. (Your health bar is shown at the bottom.)

Fish attack (and are damaged) in the order that they are played. Think out playing them carefully!

Fish are damaged and killed forever. Only sacrifice them if you need to!

beat the game on my second attempt. some thoughts:

  • this is to some extent user error for not scrolling down, but i had no clue what was going on on my first run. an more thorough in-game tutorial would go a long way, i think
  • its not obvious that the health bar is a health bar until it starts doing health bar things. it just looks like part of the background
  • i frequently felt pressed for fish. removing them was never something i wanted to do, especially relative to how frequently removal was offered as an option
  • let me fast-forward through combat at the start of my second run
  • ability tooltips? i'd like to know what the enemies' abilities are, not just that they have them. and it'd be convenient to be able to remind myself what my own fish's abilities do
  • i never ran into a scenario where attack order mattered. probably emphasize the order in which fish take damage more
    • though perhaps this could be changed by applying the damage and ability of each fish individually. this adds an interesting interaction between goldfish and clownfish; if the goldfish's ability activates before the clownfish takes its turn, it could change power and deal more or less damage than expected
  • possible bug: clownfish can copy themselves. my clownfish remaining at 6 power after my goldfish died is probably the only reason I won the final fight
  • 'twas fun

Schooling answers the question "What if fish kicked ass?" by granting fish the opportunity to kick ass

SUPER FUN super cool!!!!

anglerfish is op!
